Oscar Inspiration

For those looking for fashion inspiration for their big day, many turn to events such as the Oscars. Lets face it. People watch for the fashion just as much, if not more than for the awards themselves.  Its where all the gorgeous, rich people are found in one place, at the same time.

Love it or hate it, what people show up wearing can inspire and dictate future trends, including those in the wedding industry.  So I’m jumping in the fray with a few of my picks for dresses that would inspire any bride to be for her wedding day.

from L to R: Portia De Rosi in Naeem Khan, Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta, Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra, Maria Menunos in Johanna Johnson

There were a lot (A LOT) of nude and blush tone dresses and a lot of detail from cut outs to sparkles and bits of fluff.  For the most part, these dresses were very form fitting with a lot of trains that puddle on the floor.  I’m glad to see that those big Disney princess ballgowns of years past are no longer.  While there was plenty of skin it seemed to make its way mostly through plunging necklines or sheer  panels.  It was subtle and classy.  Overall the ladies looked lovely and I think any of these dresses would make wonderful inspiration for a bride.

from L to R: Julia Delpy in Jenny Packham, Lupita Nyong’o in Prada, Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé, Jessica Biel in Chanel Haute Couture

I think my favorite look of the night was Lupita Nyong’o.  I loved her soft blue dress, simple jewelry, and sparkling headband.  She was just stunning.  I think her dress seemed so light and airy compared to many of these other heavily decorated and bejeweled dresses.  She looked effortless.

For those of you getting married, did any of the oscar looks inspire you?  Do tell.
