Washington State Elopement

Despite living and getting married in Scottsdale, Arizona, Jessica wanted her wedding photos with her fiance Glen to feature the Pacific Northwest area where she had spent much of her adult life. With photographer Traci Edwards on board, they took the opportunity to get Jessica the pictures she’s always dreamed of having while creating beautiful memories during Glen’s first trip to Washington. This little mini-elopement would take place prior to an intimate ceremony later in Arizona.

Traci met them at their Airbnb in Anacortes on a rainy cold day, but they still conquered the day hiking several trails and popping champagne! Jessica said: “Being from the Northwest, I’d always hoped to have Wedding photos taken in my home state with my husband-to-be. I’m now beyond excited to say, these photos and this memory will forever hold a very special place in my heart, and will be treasured for years to come. Not only was Traci able to capture the love (and laughter) I have with my future husband, but she was able to so perfectly capture the rainy, but beautiful Pacific Northwest!

Lady Bosses Celebrate – A Galentine’s Day Shoot

So for any Parks & Recs fans out there, you know that Valentine’s Day is preceded by what some might consider to be an even more important day, “Galentine’s Day”. This unofficial holiday created by Amy Poehler’s TV character is a day for ladies to celebrate ladies. Transcending the screen into real life, Galentine’s Day celebrations have been popping up for the past few years now.

Photographer Sarah Heppell said, “ever since attending a Galentine’s bash an hour and a half away with my bff Jenn last year, I’ve wanted to create something locally that gave me the same warm and fuzzy feelings. The feelings I experienced when I was celebrating friendship in a room with 100 other gals, sipping on mimosas, listening to music, eating yummy treats and getting our craft on – happy, thankful, excited, and full from delicious food, to name a few. #ladiescelebratingladies style! So I created it on a small level. A styled shoot and after party for all of my lady boss business owning gal pals!!! We set up, did the shoot, and then enjoyed our labor of love and we photographed that, too! Happy Galentine’s Day!”

What a fun group. Maybe they can invite me next year! Do any of you celebrate Galentine’s Day officially or unofficially? Let me know in the comments.

Show Spotlight: Camp Indie Wed

Every year I hand off the 3rd floor lounge during our Chicago show to an area event stylist. In the past we’ve had a whiskey-inspired lounge, a vaudeville-themed soiree, and a Moroccan-meets-California hideaway. This year I am excited to share this year’s lounge: Camp Indie Wed. In order to get in the mood for the show, a select group of vendors went to camp where we worked on an amazing styled shoot (some of which you will see at Indie Wed. Here is a behind the scenes peek.

Camp is in session at this year’s Indie Wed! Make it a point to climb the stairs to the third floor of the show to meet our exclusive Indie Wed vendors who will bring you right back to your best summer camp memories. Boutique planning and styling company Anticipation Events has curated the chicest campground in the city. Follow the trail signs to meet all of the counselors you’ll need to plan your big day. Chow down in the mess hall with treats from Feast & Imbibe and Elysia Root Cakes and drink some grown up Bug Juice courtesy of Thalia Hall Chicago’s new offsite beverage catering team, The Juice Box. Circle round the campfire for a sing-a-long with Gussied Band and say hello to the team who will capture your best memories: Jeremy Lawson Photography andLEAP Weddings. Spend some time in Arts & Crafts and meet EVR PaperThe Foxglove Studio and relax while the team from Debra Petrielli Freelance Hair & Make-up Artists creates the perfect braid at our camp “Braid Bar.” Don’t miss a minute of #CampIndieWed at Ravenswood Event Center on February 6!

Moroccan Daydream Wedding Lounge

If you don’t already have enough reasons to attend the upcoming 6th Annual Winter Indie Wed, let me give you one more!  Similar to last year’s event we will be transforming the entire 3rd floor of the Ravenswood Event Center into a lounge for attendees to relax in between visits with vendors below.  I asked local event stylist (and Indie Wed alum) Katie Jayne from Jayne Weddings to plan this year’s lounge.  After some serious brainstorming, we are excited to introduce….

Interested?  Well let me tell you more!

Inspired by a 1970’s California-meets-Morocco vibe, Katie is bringing the warmth and radiance of the sun to Indie Wed! Experience a state of zen while sipping on bright libations in our mystically alluring Moroccan cabana. Treat yourself to our complementary manicures and massages. Nibble on global themed fair while listening to some relaxing melodies. Catch up with friends or capture the moment in our photo booth. Soak in the good vibes and plentiful inspiration provided by the unique wedding vendors. Yes this is a wedding show, but the 3rd floor will be the perfect oasis for you and your love to unwind from all that wedding planning.

To entice you just a bit more, here is a list of the amazing vendors who will be participating in the lounge.

Under the careful stylings of Jayne Weddings, Art of Imagination will magically transform the 3rd floor space with a beautifully draped cabana, lighting and over 900 feet of tissue paper swag crafted by Jayne Weddings.  Katie from Jayne will also have a boho tablescape as inspiration to help anchor the room.  Bowery & Bash, Chicago Farm Tables, Chicago Vintage Weddings and Re:Find Joy will be providing vintage rugs, gorgeous furniture and details for the space while Ultrapom will bring the sexy to the lounge with their sequin linens and gold poufs.  The Foxglove Studio will adorn the space with lush florals in vibrant colors along with making floral crowns you will see on the wandering models.  Paper Stories is designing all the signage and paper goods while Julia Franzosa captures some amazing photos throughout the day.  Elysia Root Cakes will have a sublime Moroccan inspired cake on display.  If you are hungry, The Publican/Publican Quality Meats will have a tasting menu that is sure to dazzle and will be providing the perfect libations for this fete.  Have a sweet tooth?  Blackdog Gelato can sweeten you up with their tasty gelato cookie sandwiches.  After noshing, head over to the Smilebooth photo booth to snap a few pictures or get inspired to move with the playlist provided by Cage and Aquarium.  And if all that doesn’t get your relaxed enough, Spa In Your Space will be providing free mini-manis and massages from 11-3.

So if that doesn’t get you in the mood even more, I don’t know what will.  This year’s show is going to be amazing and this will be just one more reason you will be glad you came.  Tickets are on sale now.  Visit here to get yours while they are still available.

Inspired By: Pink Feathers

I love Pinterest.  I could spend hours on there daily if allowed.  I have a whole board marked ‘Inspiration’.  Inspiration for what?  Well I’m not really sure.  Inspiration for how I want to decorate my house.  Inspiration for a tattoo design.  Inspiration for a place I want to visit.  Perhaps it is just inspiration for a color palette.

Inspired by Pink Feathers - Indie Wed

I pinned this super pretty photo of pink feathers a while back and was looking at it again today.  There is something about it that is so delicate and feminine.  I could see this inspiring a whole range of wedding related goodness from a pale pink wedding dress to a range of maids gowns in varying shades.  Colors for the perfect cake, with feather designs to boot, perhaps?  Invitations?  The possibilities are limitless.

Color Crazed: Purple, Pink, Orange & Yellow

I’ve been a DVR addict for so long now that it’s difficult to remember the colossal inconvenience of tape recording a show. When I saw this tribute to VHS earlier in the week, it brought back all kinds of nostalgia.

The best thing about the tape was how amazing the colors of these stripes are together. So, this week’s Color Crazed is a flurry of pink, orange, yellow and purple with a retro touch here and there.

Real Wedding: Leslie & Collin

When this wedding showed up in my inbox last week I couldn’t wait to show it.  While I still have a soft spot for the rustic barn weddings with burlap and that homespun vibe, it was refreshing to see a wedding that looked and felt so different than everything out there these days.  There was so much attention to detail that I felt transported, looking through all the photographs. I could imagine the sounds, the smells, the tastes and it was magical.  Meet Leslie Rivas & Collin Kelly.

Leslie and Collin met 12 years ago when she moved from California to Houston and they haven’t spent a day apart since.  Though based in Houston, the two consider New Orleans one of their favorite places so it was only fitting to have their wedding in a city that meant so much to them.  Their friends and family traveled from all over the country as well as Mexico to help them celebrate.

Named after the cross streets, their venue, a private home for rent, Race & Religious served as the perfect backdrop for their ceremony and reception.  Leslie, a fashion stylist, and Collin, a photographer, combined their love for vintage circus, vaudeville, & masquerade elements to create a theme that was uniquely them.

About her bouquet, Leslie says she made it using a mix of “dress patterns made into tissue flowers, antique brooches, dried flowers and feathers,  then an antique locket with a picture of my grandfather and my husbands father in memory and also a black lucite airplane pin”

The reception included everything from vintage George Mellies films that were a favorite of the couple to stilt walkers, a fire dancer, a dog and clown act and mimes, all with an old world vibe.  The band Tuba Skinny as well as local street performer Salvatore Geloso provided the musical ambience for the reception.

Honestly there were just so many amazing photographs to show that I had a difficult time choosing.  Thankfully Leslie and Collin created a website where you can view all of these and many more.  I highly encourage you to check it out.  And if you get a chance, visit their personal websites.  They are uber talented and there are some amazing editorial photo shoots they worked on together.
