Who are we?

The Indie Wed shows are the brainchild of Kelly Maron Horvath, owner of Paper Stories, a Chicago area letterpress studio. While trying to figure out a way to reach wedding clients that seemed to fit more with her style of design, Kelly noticed that traditional wedding shows seemed a bit traditional, commercial, and often stale. Having participated in a number of independent craft fairs, Horvath thought it would be great to take the spirit of such events but with a focus on weddings. Soon after, Indie Wed was born. Our first event was in Chicago in January 2010 and due to the tremendous response, in 2011 the show expanded to include a summer show.  In 2012 Indie Wed started its expansion by heading past the Illinois boarders to other cities across the country including Milwaukee and Denver.

In late 2010, Kelly took on some help from a fabulous gal, Shannon Spellman.  Shannon, who is also a graphic designer,  runs a wonderful vintage plate rental company called Plate.  When Shannon isn’t busy with her design work or Plate, she lends Kelly a much needed hand.

Kelly is also fortunate enough to have the assistance of a number of folks during our actual events.  Without this group of friends and family, the shows wouldn’t run nearly as well as they do.

Paper Stories is a local design & print shop that focuses on creating innovative and stylish paper goods that are also environmentally responsible.  We also believe that it is important to be socially responsible and regularly donate a portion of our profits in the form of micro-loans to entrepreneurs in developing nations.

We also feel excited to have Chicago as our backdrop for our flagship event. This city has such a wonderfully eclectic and diverse community that it seems appropriate for such a landmark event to take place here.

Indie Wed is also looking to expand to other cities.  To do so, we need a committed local contact who has some knowledge of event planning or the wedding industry.  If you think you might be that person and know that your city could benefit from an Indie Wed event, please contact us.
